Much of sound editing consists of organizing the audio on tracks for mixing and creating transitions between regions of audio so ambience and movements don't abruptly change. For audio work, picture editing software like Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer are not as easy to work with as Pro Tools, but they can be used to do some sound editing. At Soundcrafter we have set up guidelines to follow so organizing the audio and creating smooth transitions can be done by the filmmakers themselves. The guidelines can also be used for work in Pro Tools and other DAW applications like Apple's Soundtrack Pro.

It will take extra time, anywhere between a couple days to many weeks and the mix might take a little longer depending on how good your work is, but following these guidelines could save you thousands of dollars for work that we would be doing anyway to prepare the tracks for mixing.

These guidelines are available for those planning on doing their final mix at Soundcrafter. We will e-mail them to you as a PDF file.
